How secure is a transit connect

Postby markspark71 » Tue Jan 01, 2013 5:34 pm

Whilst on my search to buy my connect i have come across a few adverts where peoples vans have gone missing i have also seen some metal gadget that fits around the wiring to the back doors, i was told a while ago some older transits they used to get in them buy cutting the rear door loom which would open the back doors, have ford modified this fault so it dont happen with the transit connect, i know the van deadlocks and has a chipped key would are these alone be a good deterant to would be thieves or is it better to fit a 2nd alarm to the van
I know that if there are out to take the van they will but i would like to make it as hard as i can for them the thieving scum

Depends what you are carrying.
If you have other security items fitted to the door then they wont bother cutting the loom as they still have to get the locks off first.
People say my van looks like Fort Knox.
Armaplates, security locks, barrell blanks, etc if they want the van that much they'll nick it.
As long as you get yourself a good alarm system you will be ok.

I was bothered about this and fitted armaplates and loomguards shortly after I bought the van....it's not so much that I have much of value in it, just the aggro of repairing the van after someone breaks in. I think the stuff I've done is a good visual and practical deterrent. If it has to stay outside somewhere I don't like the look of when I work away, I use a disclock.

I carry quite a lot of tools being an electrician and the thought of having to replace them is not a good thought
Putting an alarm on is an option but with the bulk head in the van the sensors wont sense in the rear of the van

Armaplate are stainless steel plates made specifically for the van they're to be fitted to....they cover the whole external lock assembly, leaving only the shape of the key, so it's almost impossible to screwdriver your way in. They wrap around the edge of the door on one side, but the panel has to be drilled to secure them from the inside. Loomguards are C - shaped, made of alloy, and fit around the part of the loom coming into the rear doors to stop the scummers from hacking through the wiring and springing the locks.

I got mine off the net from a place called Vanlocked, the armaplate stuff's pretty expensive though, about £350 from memory, but that's for all 3 locks and a plate to cover the blank in the side door.

The alarm I have detects any doors being opened front or rear. Also have sensors in front and use a disklok.
Also got those pedal locks as well.
