Steering not straight after tracking

Postby dannysconnect » Mon Jan 07, 2013 11:54 pm

Hi guys.

Want an experienced mechanic with a good knowledge of tracking to help me out. Took my connect to national tyres yesterday. Got the tracking done as it needed doing. Van drives fine but since it was done the steering wheel is about 5 degrees to the right. When I put it in the straight position it quite violently swerves to the left. Any help would appreciated. I am taking it back for them to look at and i don't want them to bullshit me as the steering was perfectly straight Before I took it there.

Is it normal for the steering to be out of alignment after tracking? They kept it straight throughout tracking. Is there a way of adjusting the track rod ends?

If someone can tell me any facts that I can throw back at them incase they try to fob me off

They should be able to have wheels and steering wheel bang on straight. Don't be fobbed off with them telling you they can't.
If it not a Ford then you can keep it.

I'll tell them if the try it. At the end of the day the steering was straight before I. Took it there, it's co s they don't bother test driving it after tracking it. Laziness buddy

It sounds like they adjusted the tracking by altering one side of the rack. it needs to be adjusted at both ends to keep the rack central.
When they adjust it, make sure you sit in the vehicle and hold the steering wheel in the correct position, they then need to adjust both track rod ends to ensure the tracking is right.
This assumes your steering wheel is fitted to the column in the right postion, otherwise it is another story.

I am yet to see them verifying the steering position after tracking. It's ALWAYS off.

They should use a tool and lock steering wheel in a strait position and from there adjust the tracking as per recommend settings.

They have simply done it wrong

They did hold the steering straight with a tool. They r a bunch of tools can't be arsed to do a proper job and people spend good hard money on it. On the subject of suspension and tracking. Anyone know if they do a sport suspension kit for the connect?
