gear problem or clutch

Postby bazzer933 » Thu Jan 03, 2013 7:59 pm

Im struggling to get gears on my 55 plate connect,, It goes into all the gears most of the time but sometimes struggles to get into gear and crunches and sort of pops out so I need to take it really slow and shove it back in again,,

I had the AA out for a separate issue last week and he said he heard an issue with the clutch bearing ,, there is a slight vibrating sound and when I put the clutch down it goes away,, Im also getting a vibration from the front when I need to take off from a standing start when going uphill.

Can anyone advise if they think it would be a clutch issue , gearbox issue or even both and the best way to check I dont want fleeced or spend money on the wrong thing.

You could check to see if the gear selection cables are set correctly first as its FREE :D

Thanks for reply I will get the mechanic to check this over the weekend ,, Is there anything obvious he should look for ? ,, I was out in the van earlier and put the van in gear a few times while the engine was off ,, It deffo sounds a little odd when doing so so im praying the gearbox is not goosed,,

Had a similar issue on someone's transit van.after adjusting gear cables the gears worked smoothly. Also might be worth to try old gear oil and fill up with fresh new gear oil. Might make noises disappear. Only an idea though just a cheaper solution than clutch change.
