Are you using the mondeo engine ECU ? If so then you will not be able to get rev counter to work & Batt light would not turn off

This is due to the ECU type. On Mondeo mk2s the rev counter is operated by a single wire (WH/BK), pin 48 on ECU connector. For Alternator charge a single wire (GN/BK) connected direct from alternator to instrument cluster for BATT light.

On connects the BATT light is controlled by the ECU due to the "smart charge" system & data is then sent to the instrument cluster via 2 wires (BW/WH & GY/VT) which it SCP+ & SCP-. The rev counter is also controlled by the ECU via SCP as well.

It's a early TCI 90ps engine & proberly had its intercooler mounted on top of inlet manifold  (Engine code RFN)

iam not running an ecu really, all the old engine needed was a live feed to the fuel shut off valve and thats about it. the old connect ecu is still on there to obviously run the glow feed temp sensor etc.. but at the moment iam struggling with the wiring from the alteternator to put out the battery light and the whereabouts the rev counter takes its feed from.

I remember these engines   they were a doodle to bypass the immobilser !

Try plugging in the crankshaft sensor, its located at the back of engine at the flywheel. - pin 1 is WH/RD & pin 2 is BN/RD

Have you changed the throttle pedal over the cable operated ?
