Checking hub positions afterlight collision

Postby YRob » Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:39 am

Hi.

Not Connect specific, but I've had excellent guidance on here before.

Following a low speed slide on ice into bridge sidings, I'm taking slow bites out of the repairs.

What is the best way to check wheel positions, and what is acceptable tolerance? Haven't found much info online.

I've just measured the distance from the front lower control arm (as near to hub as I can place the tape measure) to the rear axle to try and get some idea if there is any other deformation. There is a centimeter difference between sides.

Collision centre assessment said frame was ok. Tracking rod very bent on one side. They talked about a difference of 4cm between front and rear hubs, comparing left to right sides. To me that seems mostly accounted for by the bent tracking rod.

Thanks for any advice!

Think you're meant to measure it diagonally left rear to right front , right rear to left front.

That will tell you how out of square it is and how much affected side has to be moved to get it right again.

I would measure it in as many different ways as possible, front to rear, side to side and diagonal and wheel positions relative to bodywork.
