Connect Brake Pedal Pulsing

Postby metalworker0 » Mon Dec 26, 2022 10:07 pm

"erratic signal will make the pedal pulse, usually at low speed just before stopping."

this is happening to my connect

looked at all the diagrams don't see a toothed ring

looked at the hubs ..don't see this toothed ring

i have the sensors
does the hub have to come out to find it ..will taking hub off, destroy the hub?

all the best.mark

Pop a wheel off, the toothed (reluctor) ring will be within 1mm of the end of the sensor.

i take it you can only see it when you take the sensor out of the hole

Nope, the front reluctor ring is behind the brake rotor. It looks like a toothed wheel and is pressed onto the inner part of the hub.

Transit connect is different, more like a car setup.
It doesn’t have any kind of toothed ring.

The dust shield part of the wheel bearing is a magnetic pickup.
People have fitted the front wheel bearing the wrong way round in the knuckle then wondered why abs won’t work,or even fitted the non-abs hub, which looks identical (minus the magnetic bit)

Rear hub is same, see this pic.
The brown / red part of inner bearing seal is the abs ring.

so there is no thoothed ring to corrode and cause this problem then ..so must be the sensors ?

or can rust swarf etc ... magnetically stick to it to cause problems

can this hub be removed without destroying it ...so i can see whats going on

Yes,
Rust,swarf/debris or damage to the surface will cause same ‘issues’….

If you’ve already checked or changed the sensor itself, then it’s likely that ring, you may be able to see it on a front bearing once the driveshaft is removed.
The abs sensor comes down thru top of the knuckle, and fits in the gap left between the ends of the large bearing retaining circlip.

I've split the topic and re-homed the Connect question, to avoid confusion between two different vans :)

Thanks Al,

We have no relevant details of this vehicle, hence mentioning removal of driveshaft
OP has not stated front or rear,or any details other than it’s a connect….

Rear hub/hubs on 2006 connect with drums.
not sure ..if the bearings will destroy themselves when removed
That's the question

in order to check all is well, this hub / Hubs needs to be removed.

lots of grinding / sand blasting went on ...when i de-rusted rear leaf springs and de-rusted parts of rear bodywork .
having said that ...the pulsing pedal was happening even before this. ...exactly how you said ..just before coming to a stop.

This hidden magnetic set-up is new to me ..never come across it before ..all my previous vehicles had toothed rings ...which you could clearly see and diagnose.

thanks for replies so far

Bearings won’t destroy them selfs as they’re not sealed like the front
