New to connect, timing chain/belt help!

Postby Angeldog » Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:35 pm

We are going to see a 2012 connect 1.8l diesel tomorrow
Looks a decent van mileage is 86000.
Has new Mot with no advisories.
My concern is it hasn't had the timing chain/cam belt changed.
Does it have 1 or the other or both I'm getting conflictin info on that and when to change. Some saying from 60000 some 150000???

NO CHAIN - Has two belts , one wet belt and one dry belt ..anything after 2007 has this set up.
wetbelt, (type in "Alan Howatt wetbelt" on youtube) if its not been changed ..i say change it now for peace of mind.
I think even 100,000 is too long.
Having said that there are plenty about with 130,000 plus ( I know because i have a mate who keeps buying them to sell them on ) ..they are on borrowed time! so is he if he keep buying, he's rolling the dice ..I keep telling him that, like talking to a brick wall !

Wetbelt is a big job -if you cant do it yourself though, its going to be an £800+ job minimum.

i think the dry one should be changed at between 60,000 and 80,000 - quick job and easily DIY.

You also have possible injector and pump failure at anything after 120,000. that will cost £1200+ minimum

all the best...mark

Thank you for that. That would be quite alot of money ontop of the van cost hmm

Definitely change the wet belt if it hasn’t been done recently or better still, convert to a chain.
