Unable to start 04 Transit Connect 1.8 TDCI

Postby dunksterp » Tue Mar 28, 2023 2:58 pm

Hi guys,

I'm trying to help my old man out with his transit connect.

It started cutting out while driving with glow plug light flashing, it would start right up afterwards but now it's not doing that. I've read fault codes and this is what I have :

P0409
P0070
P1211
P2291
P0251

Using Forscan I tried testing the desired fuel pressure and the actual pressure while cranking.

Desired = 28800 KPa
Actual - 6500 KPa

Quite some way off!

My thinking is that he needs to send it to a diesel mechanic because it's probably either injectors, fuel pump or both, is this correct?

I've not got the kit to do a leak off test. Are there any sensors or anything else I need to check first of all?

I know there's a million posts about this, but any help would be appreciated.

Injectors is unlikely because with faulty ones you still would get rail pressure.

It could be the clogged fuel filter (unlikely), fuel pressure sensor, imv, air in fuel line or the fuel pump itself.

First you have to check if fuel comes to the injecors. You can loosen one inlet nut of one injector by half a turn and try to start it. If no fuel comes out you really have 0 fuel pressure.
