How to disable the alarm?

I tried putting tape over the sensors in the front which works most of the time however, since I am living in the van full-time, it will sometimes go off in the middle of the night when I will be turning in bed which as you can imagine is rather annoying.

Is there also a sensor in the back/van section? I remember just stuffing something in behind the insulation so I guess that was one too. A round black thing.

I have ended up just not locking the van which is less than ideal.

Can I just disable it completely? Is it just a case of finding the right fuse and removing it? Someone on another forum said you should not do that as some vans the whole electrical system will break if it notices the alarm is disabled. Is this true of the transit connect, specifically 2007?

Ideally there would be a way to disable it when I am sleeping in there and re-enable for when I am actually away from the van and have parked it but totally disabling would be fine. Are alarms really a deterrent these days to thieves? I don't know. Could I just put a switch on one of the alarm system's wires? Just have to find where is it wired up.

Not sure about your Connect, but I have other Fords' which have a menu where you can turn off the alarm or just disable the internal sensors, leaving the perimeter alarm working.
It can probably be done using software such as Forscan or IDS

There are no menus on mine afaik - too old.

I do recall looking on youtube a while ago about the issue and it seemed to go into just what you were saying but it showed some computer screen to set it which mine doesn't have.

Yes later transits connects and most fords had this small interactive red LED computer screen after i think 2011..where you could show some functions like water temperature etc and disable or reset things like service interval oil change.

i cant tell you any more ..as mine has not played up yet ..so i haven't purchased any scanner or foerscan..not needed it ,..so not bought it.

someone here should be able to tell you about the functionality of the mk1s diagnostics through a code reader.

That all sounds rather more complicated than just unplugging a fuse. So as to my original query would it just be a case of finding which fuse relates to the alarm system and removing it?

Oh yea didn't think of that.

While the sticky tape seemed to mostly work I think the issue was that when hot it would peel off.

I have now just tried pulling the plastic covers back a bit and stuffing the sensors behind there. See if the does the job.

If they are still causing issues could I just snip the sensors altogether or would the alarm make some kind of malfunction if I did that?

another way would be to have a battery disconnect device ../so every time you are sleeping the battery is disconnected disabling the alarm

Yes it is something I had considered. Stops wasting battery on useless stuff too since I only drive once or twice a week and in winter I found I had gotten a flat battery just from that periphery electronic use. Nothing direct, just clock and dashboard backlight and such. Totally wasted as no good reason to have that on all the time just there is no off button!
