2010 Open Door Chime going off while driving (door closed)

Postby sgambrel » Wed Dec 11, 2024 10:49 pm

The open door warning chime is going off intermittently but fairly continuously on my 2010 Transit Connect. It seems worse when turning right or hitting large bumps. I suspect the driver's side door but it could be any.

While it could be a shorting wire, I suspect that it's something mechanical with the sensor. I saw a video on Youtube where they put a little felt furniture pad on the sliding door and that fixed the problem. It didn't fix the problem for me. Is there a similar 'cludge' for the swinging doors (driver, passenger & rear)? Or any other ideas of how to disable the chime? It's driving me bonkers.

Thank you!

It's a fairly common problem on many vehicles where the drivers door is constantly opened and closed, it strains the wires which run from under the dashboard into the door loom, and they can crack and short out, or break the wire internally.

Diagnosis can be a bit difficult as there's not much room to get at the loom in that area, but a visual examination may give you a clue.

Thank you! Is there a "quick & dirty" fix, like pulling a fuse or cutting a wire or similar? I don't really need that chime (and don't want the sensor maybe triggering the dome light).

Thanks!!

i have a mk1 and the chime only goes off when you have left the lights on, which is very good.

although it did stop doing that for about a week ..about a month back, so maybe i can expect some trouble soon
