Alternator and warningl ights

Postby andyspan » Wed Dec 18, 2024 12:59 pm

Hi,
Battery light came on the other night and found battery was indeed not charging. Fitted new alternator and initially the light still stayed on. May be a coincidence but I attempted to unplug smart charging lead at the battery end, gave up and on restarting van the light went out and charging well! The trouble is now the ABS light stays on. Can anyone advise me as to what the heck is going on? Thanks for any help. :(

Youll have to do diagnostics to find out

for that you'll need Forscan which is free software that you download to a laptop..you buy the interface cable.
You must join the Forscan forum ..again free, to get the software and more answers.

https://forscan.org/forum/

in the mean time measure the voltages ..engine stopped , engine started

low voltages will cause the ABS to act up.

messing around with the alternator ..disconnecting batteries ..all faults may require re-seting or relearning via Forscan

or its just co-incidence and your abs fault is unrelated ..and you have an actual sensor down ... or under inflated or wrong size tyre .

Hi again,
Thanks for your advice
I wanted to renew the smart charge cable as it seemed to be okay after jigging around with the old one. As far as I can see the common one listed only has 3 cables but the one on my van has four with an extra one coming from the starter motor. This loom ends in a four pin plug to the left of the battery. Is this one available as I can't seem to find it when searching?

i cant give any more of help unless you tell us the year, engine size.

if 2016 to present then the details of the wiring and plugs will be in the BEMM manual

I could be wrong - but - don't think they had smart alternators then.

if you can get this site to work

https://www.catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l ... A0NDgrMTM1

and no link to BEMM for that date
