2022 Connect Starting Problem

Postby NKF » Thu Jan 02, 2025 11:51 am

Hi all,

I am new to this, so please bear with me.

I have a Transit Connect 2022 (Ireland) and it has run fine pretty much until now.

I has just been services at 61k km.

I went to use the van on Tuesday and started fine. Then all of a sudden, while still idling, the engine stopped. It came up on the dash, that it needed a manual restart. So I turned it over and it didn't fire. It sounded as if there was no compression.

I opened the bonnet and opened the oil filler and noticed that I could see the cam. I thought is it was a cam belt, damage was already done so asked my daughter try and start the van. I could see the cam turning as normal, but still no firing and sounding as if no compression.

My thought is that perhaps it is a blown fuse, but looking at the fuse information I cannot see a specific ignition fuse.

Has anyone experienced something like this in the past, any ideas what could be the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Sorry,

It is the 1.5 Diesel. It is either the 100PS or 120PS engine.

Thanks Mark,

I had a look at that earlier and sent it to my mechanic.

Okay, The engine is now running fine.

The van had not been started since the 20th December and I started it again on the 1st January, when the engine died.

My Ford dealer said that the earliest they could look at it would be into February, so could I get someone local to look at it.

My Mechanic came over today to check out the fault codes, there was nothing. Not sure exactly what he did but it came up with a message on my Ford app, Powetrain Malfunction / reduced power. Apparently it turned out to be the hydraulic tappets had lost oil and once the oil pressure build up by running it on the key it then fired up. It has been running for an hour or more on the drive and I have now taken it out for a run of 30km and everything seems to be running fine.

I thought I would share this as it had nothing to do with the timing being out as such, just that the valves were not operating properly.

I need to mention this to the Ford dealer and see is they have heard of anything similar.

Thanks for the comments and views.
