High Mileage MK1 Connect Van ?

Postby BSK236 » Sun Jan 26, 2025 8:32 pm

Hello,
Just wondering how my 2004 T220 is doing mileage wise compared to anyone else's van ?
Currently at 271,000, and doing quite well.
Have had van from new, with just about every option going at the time (bar 3 disc CD or pointless alloy wheels) including tailgate and dual side doors.
Been a good reliable van, though cills had to be thoroughly replaced a while back, just had part of the original exhaust replaced and on the third set of rear springs due to being fully loaded 95% of the time (though oddly the front are original)
Engine been fine, with the usual alternator / starter / water pump needing replacing and injectors / pump at 205,000. Rest is original.

Well mines never likely to reach that sort of miles, well done , mine is a 2006 its a tddi 75hp swb. doing probably only 3000 - 4000 a year ..its now at 140,000.
Its never going to get to 270,000, unless someone takes over, if i don't reach 93 years of age :) they will probably force us to buy electric vans well before that!

Mines got 179 000km right now. Mine's a 2008 Tdci.
Typically in my country, one would find vans of the same age with at least around 300 000km.
Fiestas had the same engine, and it's the same story. Most are going on 300 000+ km's.

But the engine is not the most common lifespan-ending bit in these. It's rust and general negligence.
Mk1 bodies are notorious for rusting at the rockers. If those are not mitigated or repaired properly, the rest of the van will rot away quickly, thanks to Ford using really poop-tier steel on these.

But then, these were always intended to be fleet workhorses, which have a very short lifespan to begin with.

The engines are quite solid though. Well capable of high mileages if treated right and taken care of.
