Clutch Pedal

Postby g-man » Thu Sep 04, 2025 10:00 am

Just started to be slow returning which catches me out now and then, before I take to the garage what do folk think might be the problem….spring, cable snagging or something else. It’s an’07 110tdci and on 79k. Had a new clutch about 6mth ago but no problems till now.

This happened on my Focus, starting with long journeys, but gradually getting worse, until there was virtually no 'feel' in the pedal. I put it into my garage who replaced the whole clutch, slave cylinder and DMF, which didn't cure the fault!

Next step was a new master cylinder, which did cure the fault, but I don't know if that was the only culprit, or it was a combination of worn parts which had now been changed.

I don't know how similar the clutches are on your 1.8 and my 1.6, but maybe worth a try?

From 09/2002 to 2013 they are all fitted with SMF single clutch plate .. so not DMF

First check is the spring on the pedal is not broken .. shown here 7k576b on the diagram - part number 1250452

http://www.catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l= ... MCsxMzE%3D

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393457876427?

After that, it plays out like this:-

1. See if clutch pedal fluid not low... note you have two compartments in the reservoir.

2. People then have tried bleeding it ... with method called "reverse bleeding".

Member "dumpers" description , as ive never done this myself.
You need to reverse bleed it if you haven’t the proper tools you can run a pipe from the front brake caliper to the clutch slave cylinder open the bleed nipples and pump fluid from the brakes through the clutch system back into the reservoir.

3. Then when that failed, replaced master and slave cylinder .. slave cylinder - which involves gearbox out.

All the best.mark
