Have you roadtested the van with the tech who worked on it and showed him the noise?
Has the van got any roof rack/bars/pipes?
Are the tyres good, plenty of tread and not disfigured?
The way to check wheel bearings etc is to jack it up so the wheel is off the ground the spin it as fast as you can (by hand) and listen.
When you say there is a noisey thrust bearing, what do you mean? when the clutch is up/down, when driving?
I miss my 'courtesy van'............140 Glx..now a Jumbo :(

The tech sounds like an idiot   I go out with as many customers as possible when there is a noise, how else are you supposed to know what the noise is :!:

I have seen a few new Connect clutches where the dampening springs become loose in the friction plate, but not many release bearings have failed (but theres always a first  )

I would get on the phone to CRC and complain about the dealer or if possible, try another dealer if theres 1 close?

You could book it in if you wanted, but I think we've got a 3/4 week waiting time at the minute   , (lots of dead mk7's  )

Is there a commercial dealer near to you?

I would insist on roadtesting with a tech and if they still say nothing is wrong with it, get them to take you out in an identical connect (sales demo etc) and see if the noise is there
