It's going to have to go back...

Postby lightning » Wed Nov 26, 2008 9:02 pm

When you leave my van for say 45 minutes (so the engine has cooled down but still registers about a quarter on the temp gauge) and then start it up again something odd happens.
At about 2500rpm there's a sudden and instant surge of power, (almost as if somebody has run into the back of you, it's that sudden) It doesn't last long enough to produce any actual extra speed....it's wierd.
After a couple of times it then goes OK until you next stop and re-start the van but it's getting on my wick now and much as I hate to allow the dealer to mess with it (as it usually ends up worse from past experience with other makes) it's going to have to go in.

Can you not take it to somebody with a giagnostic tool so you can check for error codes?
It may be something simple like a faulty sensor.

Yes it's going back to the Ford dealer, who are going to plug it into the diagnostic computer. The van is only 4 weeks old.

If I hold the engine at about 1250 rpm it's lumpy, as if one cylinder is not firing. Does this mean my injectors need recoding? It seems smooth if you actually drive along at 1250rpm in first/second gear though.

I took it to the dealer and they plugged it in to the computer, no fault codes registered. It still surges at 2500rpm when you first drive it, but only if you have already been using it and the engine is still warm..not from cold.
I'm going to get it remapped as soon as I have the funds, maybe that will improve things.
