Retro fitting a heated front screen & electric windows...

Postby Refined Detail » Thu Nov 06, 2008 1:15 pm

How hard is this to do? If at all possible?

I have a 75PS T200L, but am getting seriously annoyed at always having to wait for the screen to clear in the mornings!

How hard is it to retro fit electric goodies such as the heated front screen and electric windows? Both of these are something I would like to do!

Prices, guides on how to do it, bits I'll need etc would be more than appreciated!

Cheers

I've read that the electric windows are fairly straight forward, you'll need the door cards, motors and internal door looms from an electric window'd connects doors, or go to Fords! Then put a fuse into slot 55? behind the glove box and your away!

I think the hfs is much harder!!

Cheers :)

I did try searching for both topics, but I don't have much patience to trawl through results

Electric windows certainly sound achievable then 8) Presumably electric mirrors may also then? (Not that I'm too bothered about them!)

Heated front screen is something I'm deffo interested in though, so any input from anybody will be much appreciated.

i think ive only ever moved my elec mirrors twice first time when i bought the van :D (novelty factor ah bless) and second time when a mate said that elec mirrors can seize jam up if just left :? there nice to have but i wouldnt pay extra for them, plus they cost more when busses knock them off :x as for the screen i love it although mine is cracked at the mo still works too :) im sure you could probably fit the screen and the factory switch then just relay it and wire it up yourself :)

Belly - Yeh I totally agree, but I just thought I may consider fitting them whilst doing the other electric stuff lol.

Re. Windscreen - it's an idea I guess, but would prefer to use OEM Ford stuff - I'm fussy like that - if it exists from factory, I would like to fit it lol.

Take the windscreen scuttle trims off and see if the wires are there (will be taped to the loom if they are) :)

yeah, be good if you can also retro fit the button for the screen too so it all looks factory.

er not sure if electric mirrors only came with vans that had the elec. windows. check your door cards before your buy them as they might only have the elec window switches but not the small control knob for ya mirrors (driver side only for the mirror knob). i suspect a door card with the mirror knob will almost certainly come with window switches anyway. cant see ford doing a van that has wippy woo mirrors but windy windows :)

 Yeh this is what I feel is probably the case. Kind of regret getting an "L" tbh, but it was a bargain - tis an '04 plate ex-BT which had only done 11k from new up till December last year, I've only done 3.5k since!!, so am now looking at adding a few comforts that look OEM fitted :D

Right, to update, I had a look today under the scuttle panel and it doesn't look promising :(

The only wire I found going under there linked to the wiper linkage - should there be something else taped to this for the screen? If so, I don't have it :(

Would there be another way of doing this so it's still pretty much retro fitted?

On the mk5/6 Escort the heated screen loom was seperate. It took 1 feed from the fuse box. Maybe the Connect one is similar?

Now that's the sort of thing I was hoping to hear!! A couple of my mates are big Ford nuts, but aren't sure re. my van - though tbh they haven't looked, just said they didn't know

Right, sorry to bump this thread, but I finally got round to having a poke around my van when I changed the pollen filter, and ended up in search for wires for a quick clear screen.

I don't think I'm in luck though?:

That was the only wire that ran along underneath the scuttle panel, and it linked to the wiper motor. I'd be surprised if it works off of that?!

Any other ideas as to whether it can be done with a bit of work using Ford bits?

I think you will find there is possibly a totaly different spec for big fleets like bt, they often remove virtually everything to keep the cost down, I remember one of my customers once bought an ex bt escort van, there was no sound proofing, no radio or loom, no cig socket or loom, all sorts of things were missing. it was a good van though, low mileage & serviced well too :D
Transit Custom Limited H1 L2 DCIV, now converted to van by removing the seats etc so now twin side loading doors, fully kitted out with Sortimo racking, always loaded to capacity & averages 35mpg :D

Thanks for the reply mate. I actually again asked the other day if BT were big enough to spec their own vans, as mine is a T200L, but came with 2 rear internal lights, rear 12v socket and a Ford button for the Amber light feed, which seemed a bit strange to have on an L. Would explain why I'm missing some of the more desirable bits though!
