Hesitation 1st to 2nd

Postby steviemac » Mon Dec 22, 2008 12:43 am

Hi,

Newbie here, have a problem with my 2007 TDCI 90 LX Transit Connect. When changing from 1st to 2nd the van hesitates before pulling away, it's intermittant. Ford says there is nothing wrong with my van, my friend drives them for the police and he says theirs have the same problem but Ford won't admit it.

Any thoughts, does anyone else have the same problem ?

Great forum by the way. :D

Cheers

weve covered this, ive had 2 euro 4 connects that both did it, i had the latest program installed to 1 and it still did it, only when your driving it lightly, if you give it some it dont do it, bloody annoying and it seems theres no fix :x

These kinds of "faults" are almost always due to the emission biased engine management programming. (hesitating, stuttering, self-revving as you change gear, shunting under light engine load, flat spots, etc) If you get the engine "chipped" by somebody like Vantuner or Superchips etc these problems mostly go away....plus you get more power/torque and often better MPG.
The engine can easily cope with a bit more power, after all Ford themselves supply the 1.8TDCi in a power output of 123bhp in one version of the Focus.

there is a ford fix to this between 1st and 2nd gear, but the ford guy had to remap
using his own laptop, take it back to the dealer and have the ford guy come in
to fix it. one down side though after its fixed it happens sometimes between
2nd and 3rd, but that is better than the nose diving into the road. it took several
attempts to get the dealer to get in the ford rep to doit. keep at them

I've had my 110ps remapped and it's cured this fault, plus the stuttering at light loads (1700rpm approx) has gone, and also it's smoother, particularly under 2000rpm. It's faster too, but it wasn't exactly slow before. I think the main improvement is torque, it easily climbs hills in 4th at 1500-2000rpm that needed 3rd before.

Thanks, I'll take it back to the dealer again and tell them there is a fix for it and to ask for the ford guy. The dealer is pretty good had a problem with the radio not advancing the date when the van was parked up over the weekend and they reprogrammed the dash to fix that. I'll let you know how I get on.
