jolt/clunk on accel, de-accel

Postby hazetimesfive » Wed Jul 11, 2012 10:49 pm

when driving ... smoothly... ie not ragging it, my connect jolts and clunks when I press accelerate, and will jolt again when i take my foot off. its quite severe, it happens much less when accelerating hard through the gears.

anyone got any idea's what this is?

inner cv joint? gearbox mount??

Sounds like a mount. Very common to fail.
Check lower gearbox mount to subframe but whilst at it check all mounts including gearbox one under airbox.

As above bt more likely the bottom gearbox mount. Replaced mine last Friday for clunking on acceleration.

well i changed it and that fixed not only the clunking but the excessive vibration when moving off.

however i've found out that the bolt hole on the bracket (transmission side) is threaded, so I'm not sure what to do about that.

I have exactly the same problem with my 04 at 76k miles, we've ruled out the shafts and there is a big knock exactly as you describe where the shafts go in to the box, having a new box fitted on Thursday :( All the gears are ok it's seeming to be the differential side of the gearbox!!

Oh well!

Changed about 6 months ago, but, all mounts checked anyway, there's an almighty clunk at the bottom of the box when letting the clutch out fwd or rev... deffo the box :( :(

Will do, the bottom one was done about 12 months ago and when we had it on the ramp seemed OK, I'll get him to check the top one however...

Cheers Dave C

Had the van back,

Recon gearbox, both shafts replaced as when they were removing the old box the NSF shaft (Which has been done before) wouldn't come out because the circlip on the end of the splines was bust and wouldn't release it from the crwonwheel. Also the hub was damaged by the broken bearing, that had to be changed too. A new clutch assembly was also thrown in the mix for good measure.

The van is like new now, the clutch is unbelievably light, it's like a Fiat Punto clutch!! No rumbling, no knocking, no vibration....

Connie is back to her normal fitness :D

I might bathe her in the morning
