Replacing a 4000 RDS Sterero

Postby KnockerDolt » Mon Oct 08, 2012 7:16 pm

Hi, my Dad just got himself a new van (Well, a 2006 Connect) and I said i'd sort out a new sterero for him as he uses his iPod and his CD collection a lot.
I know this question has been asked on this forum extensivly (I searched first) but I still have a few questions.
The thing that throws me is the shape of it. It looks like a double-din but the rounded corners say it isn't. Can you get aftermarket stereros in this shape?
Futhermre, I also thought I could use a normal din sterero in but my DIY is pretty damn poor so is it possible to get a converter to hold the normal stereo?

Yes there's a converter that fills the corners up and goes round a double din radio, also there is a converter that allows you to fit a single din and it has a cubby space underneath to store stuff

It is possible this may be a 1.5 din not double din. In which case DD will not fit. If Ford badge is on bonnet then its definately not DD as its a mk1 Connect. You can still fit a surround to accept a single din and plenty of these on ebay. Quite a few posts regarding stereo's on here and a couple recently.

Thanks for the help, guys! I'll probably get a single din radio and an adapter then. Do you know where you can buy an adapter? I had a look on eBay and the like but I couldn't find one. I probably typed in the wrong thing

Thanks for the reference.I've found something on eBay that looks like it'll fit but I want to make sure before I get it.
I've also managed to get a picture of it here:

It looks pretty much identical so I'm assuming it'll fit. Also will I run into any trouble fitting in a normal din? I've fitted car stereos before but this will be my first Ford. The adapter comes with a cable and an ariel adapter which I assume i'll need.
