gearbox

Postby curren19 » Mon Oct 08, 2012 12:34 pm

I was told that I could fit a focus gearbox into my connect, the gears are now opposite, ie 1st is second gear and 2nd is in first etc, just wondering if anyone knows why this is, can it b fixed or do I need to purchase a connect gearbox thanks

Let me guess the gears are this way round with focus gearbox fitted ?

If they are, I know what the problem is straight away

& yes a focus TDDI or TDCI gearbox does fit into a connect

do you have a pic of the focus gearbox ?

The gearshift control cables fitted to gearbox should be in the same place as the connect gearbox (see pic below) This is the correct one you require.

BUT if your Focus gearbox looks like this one (see pic below) then you have the wrong gearbox :(
As the gear selector mech bolted to top of gearbox is different therefore control cables are connected on the back. (although It may be possible to replace mech with the connect one)

just swap the gear selector mech, its what i did, put the gearbox in neutral, undo all the bolts on the plate holding the gear selector mech in place and remove, then refit your connect one.

Yep I got a focus/connect one on eBay and it didn't even come with the selector mech. Mine bolted straight on and voila. I even got the better ratio so I do less revs than before at the same speed.

Only place would be a scrappy, but I think they would make you buy the whole box. If you got it from a scrappy originally maybe they would do a swap for the right one?
