Timing belt tensioner

Postby dannysconnect » Tue Oct 09, 2012 12:41 am

Does any1 know if the tensioner arm on the cambelt is supposed to move when finding top dead centre as the new belt i fitted does? I know the arm is supposed to stay between the 2 windows on the tensioner which it does but only when cylinder 1 is at tdc. Is this movement normal or is the new tensioner faulty? Ive changed a few connect belts before but never noticed it before as i can see more on this 1 cos the engine has been removed. Ta.

Re: Timing belt tensioner

I have just changed the timing belt on my 2.5 di. I put the pins in the flywheel, cam and pump sprocket, changed the belt, tightened the tensioner etc. I took the pins out and turned the engine over 720 degrees using a socket on the crank pulley. The engine is in the workshop at the moment and so can not be fired up.

I have found that now the cam sprocket and pump sprocket pins can be re inserted but the fly wheel pin hole is about 60mm out of line. Not sure how this could happen as I took the pins out after the belt was fitted.??? Any advice gratefully received.
