Don't post much these days.. but thought this might be worth sharing...
Came to touch up a 'rust spot' under the sliding door on Saturday.. some rust spot- turned into a sill repair of some 700mm long- and not just the bottom- the full profile!
Not happy- Thought these connects were galvy from the factory???
Perhaps they missed mine??? Didn't really expect that on an 05 plate....
No- I can testify.. they are galvy but it appears only on the outside... had to grind back to bare metal to get a decent weld and where I was a bit light with the grinder I got the tell tale greeny- white galvy weld!
Btw guys... don't breathe in the fumes off that- you get welders flu from it - Zinc poisoning!!!!
All I can think of is I left the blanking grommet out of one the roof rack holes for a few weeks in the winter when I was in Berlin.. probably 2 ish years ago..
Perhaps water's been sat in the sill for a while- and rotted through from the inside- the other sill is fine.
Moral of the story: don't leave the roof rack holes in the roof open!!!!!!!
Cheers!
Steve
