Dash lights

Postby Graham Taylor » Sun Oct 28, 2012 8:14 pm

Following on from Borders thread regarding changing the cluster dials, I have always understood the actual lights are not bulbs but led's and fixed to the board so cannot be changed. Can/has anyone actually changed these for white (or any other colour) or can it not be done?

Not so bad if you know what to do. Bit supprised no one has had a go at this just to get rid of that horrible colour.

I'd be willing to give it a shot if anyone has got a dash they've replaced? I've done a fair bit of work with SMDs

I will be doing this when i have time to take dash apart and solder them on..

I want a blue dash , but also I will be looking into changing the colour of the electric door switch and heater controls also to blue ( im a stickler for consistency and a pro look )

when i do get around to this , I was already planning making a tutorial .. I did do this on my old mazda 323 ..

but there maybe an issue ...

Its all very well changing the blubs / Led's .. but if on your dials the actual increment part is green also ( as it was in my mazda ) that will have to be changed also ... and thats not such an easy job , hopefully on the connect its just the leds and the dials are black and clear .. again this cant really been seen until the dash is apart.. ( or unless anyone knows .. )

what would be good is a dash from an old scrapper that can be taken apart to see how to do it first, before attempting it on your own car.

so if there's anyone that has a dash to donate to this cause ... lol

Been away for past few days but will have a look and see if I can find a dash cheap enough on ebay.
