Just when l thought the van has never let me down

Postby lightning » Wed Nov 14, 2012 7:17 pm

Put my foot down away from some lights and as l changed into second the yellow eml light came on, the one that looks like a gear wheel.
Never seen it before when driving. All power was lost and l thought it was going to break down but managed to limp to a layby. Turned off ignition and restarted, light went off and all seems fine again. But there must be something wrong somewhere?
The van is a 2008 TDCi 110ps. Mileage is 55,000
What could be the fault? The light was on, not flashing. I plugged in my Bluefin when l got home but there were no fault codes to read according to the display.

As it's getting colder and the boost air is more denser it may of seen a small overboost and cut the power to safeguard its self if it was anything major it would of logged a code sounds to me like you hit some sort of cut. Also the fact you turned it of and back on and it was fine suggests it was a cut.

Mine did exactly the same when I was heading up the M40 to see Martyn/vantuner on my 08 connect with 31k on it. He read the codes when I got there and it was injector wiring. If you know anyone that can read your codes cheap or free it may put your mind at rest. I'm just going to get some connector cleaner on the terminals to try prevent it happening again. This stuff will do:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400ML-CARPLAN ... 4602d27f8a

I will see how it goes now.
It did have Bluefin installed a while ago but I removed it due to the insurance wanting an extra £200 with it fitted.

The van has on occasion limited power when I accelerated away after the engine has been idling for a while (say at a car wash) I'm not sure remapping the 110ps is entirely a good idea, as I think it approaches the limit of the clutch etc.

The 110ps is not exactly slow in standard form.

My van had a funny turn the other week. Started it up and after a minute or so battery light came on. Wasnt far from home and running ok so carried on. Thought maybe the alternator loom problem so when I got home turned engine off then started up to see if it would come on again but nothing and been ok ever since.
