New owner needs advice.

Postby Bailey. » Wed Sep 26, 2012 1:06 pm

I'm a new owner in need of advice, I have just brought a 2008 swb 90ps connect, really pleased with it, goes better than I expected but never did I intend to mod it when I got it but after coming on here and see what you guys have done I'm not sure I can resist, it kind of works out well as I've just sold my supra to buy a house so at least this will give me something to tinka with evenings and weekends. So here I go, I use the can for short journeys on 75% rural roads and want some advice on a few things.
Lowering the van?
Will it turn it into a bitch to live with or wouldn't it be to harsh?(I've never lowered a van in my life)
Remap?
After doing a little research it's seems that van tuner postal remap is the way to go, am I right and is this 100% safe? Looking to gain a couple mpg and maybe a little more poke.
Alloys?
What is the wheel pcd, width etc?

firstly welcome.

vantuner is the man when it comes to remap,100% safe you tell him what you want (more power, better mpg or a mix of both)and he will do it.

if you want to lower the van, then dont go to low because of the roads you are using, but having said that i was running my sport this low and had NO problems

was on coilovers so adjustable front and back

wheels are 108 x 5 7.5j - 8j most people run 18" focus or mondeo wheels
cant remember the offset think its 45

Thanks for the advice, After doing a little research i think i am going to buy a van mann rear lowering kit and have a go with the mk 2 focus lowering spring on the front. And see how that works. Is this a tried and tested method of lowering now or is it still up ion arms about what is safe and whats not??? looking to go around 60mm rear and 40-50mm front???? How harsh is the ride after this is done?

Vantuner will get a call next week then. Are the improvements very noticable with these remaps?

Have you looked at the options Paul/ Valetech does on his site modyourtransit.com site, he does the full lowering package if that's of any interest to you.
I've got a vantuner map and WOW is all that can be said what a vast improvement over stock (90ps also) and why a great guy.

Im fairly handy with mechanics so suspension wise i may take a pop myself but am fairly busy so a valetech kit may be a quick and easy option. going back the the remap is mpg improved or does having the remap just make you kane it even more? what hp was yours before, 90?

I threw a kit away only a few weeks ago when I moved house!
Valetech kits are the way to go, pre welded axle with everything you need, front and rear.

Had my remap by vantuner over a year now and mpg hasn't changed. Absolutely hammered it down the a13 from London to home the other day and still got above my average 39mpg and my foot was on the floor the whole way

It's definitely worth it. Having the remap made it bearable to drive  that being said the novelty factor will affect te mpg to start with ;)

Yes quite harsh, but my connect is lower than your grannies nipples, so something has to give.

Just not sure I could put up with it for 400 miles a week on rural roads, but it just improves the looks so much!
