drive shaft thing

Postby hotlimepickle » Wed Jan 30, 2013 7:00 pm

HI all. I have just completed my first Transit Connect oil change. Not as bad as I feared. Got the van jacked up onto axle stands, Slid underneath (always scares the sh*t out of me. I only paid £15 for the axle stands, and what is worse, I have an inspection pit in my garage, but the garage is so full of life's junk that I can't get in there! Oh well, I digress) while I was under there, I spotted this:

This is seen looking from front to back, on the passenger side. It is the upper end of the driveshaft? I have noticed a wobble since I bought the van, I think maybe the driveshaft is bent? and the boot must be split or losing contact with the shaft. I would be interested in opinions and guidance.
Many thanks...

Essential for bailing straw 8) But not for repairs on conects

Althought its not a big job to repair, but does require the correct tools to completely disassemble the inner CV joint :(

you can find the split and repair with superglue (clean with thinners first)

If you do glue it then get some more grease in there first ;)

To be honest there is no point in getting mucky to repair this.
It's more economical to buy a complete driveshaft from Ebay for £30.00 delivered!! And then the whole shaft and all components are new.
Why get mucky?

I would like to tackle it but I don't really have the confidence. I can do stuff when I have seen it done, but have trouble understanding the step by steps in the Haynes manual, dodgy pictures don't help. I am sure I have bought a pirate copy!

As far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier. You could do it like a charity connect rebuild. Like DIY SOS. I would like that! :D I'll make the tea :D
