New TC owner with questions

Postby Hal » Tue Mar 23, 2010 12:28 am

Hello all, I just purchased a Transit Connect XLT Wagon and I have some questions about certain features.

First some pics of my TC

I have two questions. First in the front bumper there are some cutouts/housings that seem to be for foglights. If any one has them from the factory I would like to know where the switch is for them. Are they switched with the rear fog lights or some seperate switch?

Second, there is a cutout with a cover plate in the upper left rear door on my TC. In pictures on here I can see that there is a red lens on yours. Is that a high mount brake light or something else?

Welcome to the forum Hal :D

The foglights are switched by pulling out the light switch one more notch

OK, so the front foglights work on the same switch as the rear foglights. That sounds good because it means that most if not all of the wiring for the front lights is probably there even though we don't get them as an available option over here. Now I have to figure out what parts I need to get.

I was surprized to find that the TC had the rear foglights on it. Usually those type of "Euro" items don't make it here to the states.

Hal,

Welcome. You are correct about the cutout at the top of your lefthand door in Europe a high level brake light is fitted.

Cheers..............Howard

All,
Think I'm almost certain the US version is the 2.0ltr petrol- no diesels!
I would imagine wiring for the front fogs is almost certainly there- especially if the van has aircon & the like..
they are all made in the same factory in Turkey..

Hal,
many of the components are shared with the Focus- which you also have in the US- so its not all 'new'
otherwise just source the 'extras' you want from European 'fleabay' and get them shipped back..

Cheers!

I rather like the look of it myself :D

I read somewhere, that these are sent to the States as MPV's, to avoid tax, and then the rear seats are ripped out to sell it as a van

Wonder why they didn't use it over here instead of adding a separate high brake light on the roof?

I'll have to check out the mirrors. I spent part of yesterday trying to find some blind spot mirrors that would work for me.

If by side markers you are refering to the round turn signal lights on the side, they are something we don't usually see over here.

And as mentioned by Steve we only get the 2L petrol engine with an automatic, no diesels and no mannual tranmissions.

Hopefully they are shared with what you folks call a MK 1 Focus. If that is true I have a whole garage attic full of goodies. My other vehicle is a supercharged Focus sedan and I have lots of parts that I have had on it at times. Unfortunately the "go-fast" parts won't swap as the sedan is a Zetec and the TC is Duratech but some of the suspension parts should swap.

Too bad the wheels are 5 x 108 rather than 4 x 108 because I have 3 sets of aftermarket alloys in the attic, 2 16" and one 17" set.

Some of my Focus driving friends have established some good sources for "Euro" parts while modifying their cars so I shouldn't have any problems once I find out what is available.
