L200Lee wrote:Andy: the front setup is a pain in the arse, you can try the passion ford forum for the springs as they usually have a mk1 rs being broke, or a few spares. OR, Mylee was starting a group buy for some custom springs that where basically the same profile and compression rate as the RS ones but with connect tops, so no need for cups and bearings, drop him a pm to see if it's still available.

Hope that helps :D

Nice one, thanks very much.

valetech wrote:have spoken to my ford dealer today.have been told the mk 1 rs runs the same setup as a standard focus but just lower springs

so you can use the standard top cups (part number is the same for rs and standard) £26 each from fords or use your local breakers

springs- try using lowered springs for a standard focus or ford can supply you rs spring for £80 each

My local breakers has a couple of Focus's in so i'll get the cups from there and clean them up, and try some lowering springs.

thanks for your help.

PS : HOW MUCH DOES THE FOCUS RS SPRING SET UP LOWER THE CONNECT BY ? - JUST SO I KNOW WHAT LOWERING SPRINGS TO BUY IF I CAN'T GET ANY RS ONES.

cheers

I think your looking at about 40mm lower on the front.

Ps: Paul your right about the standard focus tops and bearings, I asked the same question to my local ford dealers :D

He is right. All focus models cups, mounts and bearings are the same.Just the focus rs springs are different.I got 2 focus legs from the scrapyard for £30 and FOCUS RS springs off ebay for £30

Did you put the springs from the legs with the rs ones to see the differents? Is it just the height?

So the RS front spring lowers the connect by 40mm - is that all ?

Could the standard connect front spring just not get cut down ?

Anyhow, looks like i'll be getting some standard focus spring tops and bearings from the breakers and some focus lowering springs, i wonder if focus -35mm springs will be ok ?

No you can't cut the springs down unless to want to fail the mot

35mm lowering springs will do the job

Do a search, one guy on here cut his front springs to match the rear end lowering. Looked good, if a little to low.
A little while after, he reported that the van drove like a pig and had two leaking front shocks due to them bottoming out. :?

My old pug 306 hdi had 60mm gti6 lowering springs on, the reason I did that was they were the lowest springs I could get and being a diesel the car actually dropped about 70mm due to the diesel being a heavier lump, looked great but wasn't very practical you felt every stone and it ate arb links  So what i was getting at won't the petrol focus springs drop more than 40mm ? More like 50mm :D

The focus rs and standard focus springs are the same design.Just the spring rating is different. You could just use standard focus lowered springs, although you would have to buy all 4 just to get the front 2.
I would recommend to keep searching e-bay .I missed out on a set but another set came up a couple of weeks later.
Or bite the bullet and go to ford.

This is what you need.
FOCUS RS springs
Standard focus cups,mounts and bearings.
