The whole reason for blanking the egr is to stop the exhaust gasses being returned into the inlet manifold and in turn into the engine. The carbon deposits build up and restrict the inlet. Plus the egr cooler is there to cool those exhausts gasses before they enter the engine again, without the cooler working properly the gasses will be hotter.

It's just two reasons to fit the blanking plate
