how many KM#s has it travelled

also recheck the timing belt lines up with its marks

To me this is simply a case of this engine operating outside of the conditions that it has been optimised for.

Last winter, even in -25 C, when I had to drive my Connect through very thick snow (more like plow) for about two kilometers, the temperatures got quite high.
There was simply too much heat being generated by the engine and not enough heat exchanged by the cooling system.
This is an extreme condition for the cooling system as the engine is basicly given full beans the whole way, under significant strain.
It was just barely able to keep the engine from overheating, even when the ambient temperature was extremely low and there was a decent amount of airflow.
(the radiator was not blocked by the snow and I was going at around 40-50 kph)

Mine also has a new radiator and a new water pump (new at the time).

One thing I would check, since there seems to have been alot of components replaced recently, is for air in the system.
The 1.8tdci is decent at getting rid of air on its own, but I would still check it.
