No its not new, wouldn't pay that much for a stereo  . After it powers down it then pulls the screen back in so it must be to do with the ignition feed which comes off the can bus adapter as it still has power to pull the screen in (this is what the shop thinks)

Just took the van for a quick drive to test out dvds, put a coldplay concert in and it worked at all speeds. I didnt even ask for it to be bypassed so thats handy (it doesnt just involve grounding the handbrake wire from what ive read)

Dave

That could be part of the issue if they have tried a bypass but not done it all, looked on avic411.com and a few people have said that their radio's work for a while then go off, on the normal d3 you have to ground the handbrake and also change the pin of the mute wire and ground that as well. otherwise it seems to play a bit and then cut out. www.avic411.com is a good place to search (like here) for sound advise before parting with yor hard earned cash....

FYI on my connect i ran a metre and found thast the yellow power wires stayed connected togeterh and teh reds stayed together, which is unlike my previous 2 transits where i had to swap them to maintain the memory etc. may also be worth a peek just in case.

I'll take a look on the other forum and if i get any good info i'll post for you.

Thanks Andy, some of the stereos needed an update added before that bypass would work as well, nightmare.
The fitter is a Pioneer dealer and he's been in the game for years and everything he did was very tidy, noticed my footwell was lit up blue last night so got on my knees to have a look and its the amp under my seat which has a blue led facing the footwell, looks pretty neat.

Hopefully its something easily sorted as the install was not cheap :(

Just checked settings and handbrake is always on so maybe he has tried to do a bypass without knowing the other mods?
Think I will also show him how to set a system up as now ive tweaked it the sound has much improved, get some blur vision now :P

Hi, Yes the handbrake should always show as on, i put an inline switch to be able to switch it back to the proper mode as well, on the d3 the mute cable also has to be grounded or the thing does power down, maybe a similar setup on yours.?

I only put the bypass in to allow the satnav options to be changed the watching a DVD sounds a little too dangerous to me!

Hope you get a resolution to your problem, they do seem to be a cracking unit. i am only using the standard speakers and i'm impressed!

Did you know there is also a way to set a pin ont he unit so if it gets reset or disconnected it asks for it looks like the only real security option on it.

Took the van back today and he used a different ignition feed from the can bus interface and it worked but after 20 mins the steering stalk controls stop working, he phoned the company that produce the can bus adapter and they advised try another one first and if that doesn't work it means the van wiring for the can bus is going to sleep or semi sleep as it cant see anything so they will have to make something up, they will come from the Midlands to W Wales to solve the problem as it must be a first and nothing is listed for the Connect just Focus etc
Apparently the wiring is different on the 08/06> connects from the previous and its a right pain according to the installer, at least im getting my moneys worth

I will be trying another adapter in the new year when I going near the dealer as they are 50 miles away, one of the problems with living in the sticks!

Also he only grounded the handbrake cable and it all seems ok, told him about the 2 wire bypass and he never heard of it saying he has done thousands just using the handbrake grounded. Love the sat nav first one ive used that found my address :D

I will be getting a Hertz EP1D sub amp as my Hertz Mille sub is causing my front and sub amp (4 channel) to get hot and go into protection mode after about 45 mins of hard use. Should only go down to 4 ohms bridged and the Mille sub is 3 ohms on my meter and on the website is says 2.5 ohms although its 4 ohms on the sub! I thought it would be hit or miss as the sub is rated at 600w rms and the amp is only 190 rms and this can cause problems when at full power, I will just put the 4 channel amp into bridge mode so its only 2 channel @ 190 rms each and try to only put 100 rms into each of the front components so the amp should then run warm only.
I had a demo of this sub amp on a lower model hertz sub and it was just silly amounts of bass, better be nice to the mrs as its £380 and ive already spent quite a bit.

Still havent worked out how to cover the head unit?

Dave

Is the dealer using the ford part or an aftermarket?

The Ford part Number is A66SX 196176 - AA or Finis 1513354 which is a Canbus adapter which also allows steering wheel controls to be used in conjunction with the D3. for Transit Connect.

Hi Andy, I did mention that to the dealer but he didn't really know of the Ford unit, his is an aftermarket one. I will see what happens when I go back. Ive got to say im a bit confused as the can bus unit is fitted in the drivers footwell somewhere which also connects to the stalk controls which is now powering down after 20 mins? Had my brother in law plug a fault code unit onto the van tonight to see if anything came up, all was ok.

Thanks,

Dave
