van wont stay on tick over after slave cylinder change

hy all again im a lucky guy been driving my van and when i give it abit or up steep hills it juist revs as if clutch is slipping why would this be doing it as its a new clutch could it just need bleeding

If it's slipping it will more then likely have to come out again.

Possible causes.

Contamination from oil

Flywheel not cleaned before fitment

Pressure plate not cleaned before fitment
Pressure plate clamping force not enough so defective part

Friction plate in wrong way round ( will normally not get gears when running though )


There is no adjustment that can be done on the clutch system.

You could try slipping the clutch a bit and see if it clears. Some clutches especially performance ones can slip slightly until bed in so maybe also try using it and get a few miles on it and see if it gets any better

hy ye first thing i did was clean flywheel with brake cleaner and the friction plate only goes one way round il have to let her bed in hopefully it will get better , gears go in ok no problems at all just if i give it abit she starts to rev as if id put clutch in

Nope, bleeding will not make it slip, you would not get any gears as the clutch would not clear if it needed bleeding, all the clutches Ive changed over the last 25 years have never needed cleaning as what ever they use to protect the clutch cover or flywheel should burn off in seconds when you lift the pedal, as Marty said could be oil contamination, check the G\box breather hose it not blocked if it is it could be blowing oil out the input shaft seal, did you over fill the g\box oil, it takes 1.9 liters. The only other thing I can think of is the clutch cover bolts are not correctly torqued

ye all that is ok its blumin weired , only thing i can think of is sh*t clutch lol if i dip clutch it picks back up straight away , im not 100% sure how a clutch works but as i push pedal it engages clutch which gives you no power to accelerate until released so mine is as if the clutch is engaged slightly am i right

If it's a cheap clutch that's more then likely the problem rip it out and put an luk, valeo or Sachs kit in you get what you pay for

hy again im so lucky me just looked out to van today (dry weather) and noticed oil dripping from gearbox wear it joins to engine ive touched it and it smells like gearbox oil so thats my problem with clutch but how has oil got to there as i only put 1.9l in

Will be leaking front input shaft on gearbox so you will have to pop the box out again

i love doing that twice already , just thinking the breather ontop of gearbox should it be just a little nipple coming out or joining to loads of pipe if so where should the pipe go to

did you change the slave cylinder/bearing?, if you did i have fitted one before and the inner seal was deformed and didnt seal around the input shaft properly

That has the bearing built into it. Rip it all out and fit a good brand clutch and slave buy cheap you buy twice

fwd , so what actually has gone the slave or a seal behind that , in the haynes manual it says put a small bead of loctite 518 on slave then bolt on i did exacly that it wont be this will it

Will be the seal on the slave cylinder as that has the gearbox input shaft seal built into it. I always put a tiny bit of sealer behind the slave as it may be leaking from the joint as well either way the box has to come off
