What did you do to your connect today?

Had workmen in today, relaying the patio (a few slabs round the back of the house!), and had to go out. They had parked their lorry out the front, so had to juggle backwards and forwards to get round. Looking back with mirrors and out the rear windows, I could see I had plenty of room, then Wallop! Expected to see a huge dent in rear door, but could see nothing, other than a dirty mark on the corner pillar. Looked back at the lorry, and realised I had hit their projecting mirror. If I had been a couple of inches to the left, I would have missed it, and a couple to the right, it would have gone through the window. Mark polished out, so a bit lucky, methinks. Now to find a rear view camera!

And maybe fit reversing sensors?

Would they even work that high? Had them on a car, and would only tell you there was something up to 2 feet high behind. Would have told me that I was well away from the builders truck, except his door mirrors stuck out and were 5 feet from the ground.

Not a lot today, two new front tyres and watched the ODO go past 98,000 on the way back from the fitters

I bought 2 ltr of gearbox oil for my connect, didn't change it yet though...

I also started thinkin about dividing the load space into two, I think I could take out the steel bulkhead and make a new one at the rear of the sliding door. The forward compartment would be open to the cab and house my dog cage and some hooks for rain gear and other clean-ish stuff. Maybe ply line that area.
Could make an overhead storage space above the cabin roof liner that is open from the rear.

The rear compartment would be closed off just before the sliding door with some sturdy plywood. That should be big enough most of the time, I guess I could make that bulkhead easily removable...
We'll see if that ever leaves the planning stage

Took it for repair immediately. Runs fine now. I had the battery ground wire snap while driving a month ago, I wonder if this started the downfall.

Yesterday my van was slow to start, wipers were also sluggish. At some point on the road the battery light came on. Measured the voltage on battery terminals: 12V/engine off, 11V/engine on. Took it for repair immediately. Runs fine now. I had the battery ground wire snap while driving a month ago, I wonder if this started the downfall.

How did that happen?

Fit a new back bumper kit from transit parts center on eBay.
Bumper didn't fit into holes so had to 'adjust it'
Top trim didn't come with clips to hold it on so had to go through screw box to find some screws that fit the right width but weren't too long.
End caps wouldn't hold on with there own clips so had to drill some small discrete holes in the mounting tabs to cable tie them on.
Didn't come with a towing eye cover so not really a very good "full kit" is it.

If it wasn't for the fact my old bumper was fubar and partially held on with no nails and rivets (end caps to bumper bar) I'd of thrown it in the bin and ordered a different kit from elsewhere.

Just rotted by the looks of it

Not really. It had been yanking the cable for a while already. The battery was about 2" shorter than the bed and as it was loose it had "walked" to the far end, keeping the cable tight while hopping up and down. The other minus cable in the same terminal (the one connected to the engine side) was in perfect condition, all individual wires intact.

Wish I knew that. Emailed him and he recons he has never had a problem. Live and learn.
