Does your van have a fan belt cover?

Postby MrC » Sat May 05, 2012 7:46 pm

Hi all,

I wonder if there is a part missing on my van? Haynes manual says to remove a guard/cover before removing the axillary belt. I have no such cover, the belt is open to the elements and any spray of the road.

Perhaps there is supposed to be an engine cover down there also? Nothing on mine.

Hi G-man,

Is that definitely for the auxiliary belt? Not timing/cam belt?

That'll be what's missing then! Thanks G-man! :) I'll order one tomorrow. :D

Could have something to do with my squeal... perhaps:

Oops! :? That is the timing belt cover not the auxiliary belt cover. I rang the Ebay dealer and they confirmed there is no such part. So I guess no Connect has an axillary belt cover then. (Used to be called the fan belt...to avoid confusion!)

my connect has an alt belt cover, it bolts to the chassis leg and stops stones going into the belt

Really??!!! And does it look anything like this:

The dude on their phone line was fairly sure there is no such part to protect the Aux Belt (fan belt). Are you saying that to remove your Aux Belt (fan belt) you need to remove a cover first?

I had my auxiliary belt cover off yesterday to change the oil filter, which is also situated behind the cover.

My van is a 2008.

It's held on by two bolts into the chassis leg as mentioned above, and my guess is somebody removed it to change the oil and never put it back on.

So there should definitely be one on your van. Go to a Ford dealer and they will find it for you.

Yeah, found out its called an "Engine Compartment Splash Shield", Ford part number 4377113. Can't find Ebayer yet, so might have to buy Ford's.

Van booked into garage to sort squeal, as per my other thread: viewtopic.php?f=54&t=101833&start=15#p914731

Still not fixed squeal or belt running off to one side. Couldn't afford to take van into garage in the end.

But did buy the splash shield. Unfortunately I found that it didn't fit around my starter motor properly, so took it back to Ford and exchanged for the air-con version (vans with air-con have more wheels/a longer belt and thus a different shaped shield). Be warned: you don't get the bolts with the shield! They cost an extra 3/4 quid!!!

So far no rain, so can't confirm an improvement as the squealing would always start whenever it rained (and then go on for a day or two afterwards!). Will let you know more after a soak!
