Transit Connect will not start. . . . . .

Hello everyone,

I am wondering if anyone can help me out with this problem. I have a 2005 plate Transit Connect. I started it up the other morning first time drove to jewsons went in and came out the a van that would not start. I pushed it out the car park and rolled it down the hill where I bumped started it. I have to bump start the van to get it going so this is the problem, I know you might all say it is the starter motor but that is what I thought it was so I put a new one in and still the van will not start. All lights on the dash come on like normall and go off as they should and once bumped all light go out as normal. The only thing I can say is before this all happened when I turned the key it made a nice sound and sounded as if the van was pushing fluid around when the key was turned to the point of turning on. Now once I turn the key to the point of turning on it sounds like a small grinding sound. Sorry to have gone on and on just trying to describe it as best as I can.

Does the starter motor actually engage at all? Get someone to listen when you try to start it.

Does it turn over but not start? Check your battery connections and your starter wiring. Check your battery voltage too. Just eliminate the simple things before delving any deeper. Check your starter relay if it has one.

I have exactly the same problem with mine. Luckily I had 2 days warranty left so its gone in. So far they have changed the starter motor relay, battery, starter motor, ignition. And still not sorted it. Ill let you know when they work it out. I think i may have fried my ecu when i jumped started it. I was told you have to earth it to the chasis not the battery. oops

When I go to turn the key there is nothing at all. Everything happens as normall like once key is turned dash lights go off and radio go off. I have not to someone to listen to it yet so will try that. It dose not turn over there is nothing once you turn the key. Battery is 100% I will check the relay and wiring as well to see if it is that.

I am hoping that it is nothin to do with the ecu as the van runs 100% once bump started and there is no lights on the dash or anything to make me think it is the ecu.

When you check your volts check your earth. As in check the negative has a good connection to the chassis. Could be a bad earth from the negative terminal to the chassis.

Like I said eliminate the simple before throwin money at it

Dont know if you got ir sorted, hopefully you have.
Well after a week of mine being in the garage having everything replaced or substituted to find the problem. It all came down to the chip in the key! Even tho everything checked out ok, it wasn't talking to the immobiliser. I only had one key so i was stuffed.
