Transit connect automatic to manual transmission conversion

Postby zombiechad » Fri Jul 13, 2012 10:21 pm

As some of you may know, the Transit Connect was only sold in North America with the 2.0L Duratec engine and an automatic transmission. I intend to do a manual transmission swap. I am hoping I can use the pedal assembly and shifter from a Transit Connect diesel from the UK and then use a 2008-2011 North American Focus transmission (they also had a 2.0L duratec engine). Does anyone have diagrams for a manual transmission Transit Connect? Specifically showing information on the shifter and clutch pedal assembly? Does anyone have a good source for used parts that I may need? Maybe a Transit Connect breaker? Thanks!

Speak to Valetech, he has a never ending supply of parts for the Connect.

Wait a minute, what engine/transmission options did you fellas have in the UK? I see a Zetec, multiple diesel engines. Any 2.0L Duratec/5sps?

+1!

I was thinking of exactly the same on my way home today, when my left foot turned completely numb in a traffic jam.

A significant bump has been noted in the sales of cars with stick shifts, as manual transmissions are known for slightly better fuel economy than their automatic counterparts. Despite the recent gains, it is only as matter of time before the third pedal is done away with completely.

Surely the automatic box from a mk1 focus diesel will fit?

I'm getting closer on my manual swap. The big difference on my 2.0L duratec AT canbus transit connect and the MT 2.0L duratec ford focus 08-11 canbus (in the US) is the "transmission hardware unit connector", trans range sensor, and turbine shaft speed sensor. I think with some small wiring changes and an ECU swap it will be good. Hardware wise it will be a straight swap.

Could someone help me identify the part numbers for a 2010 Transit connect manual transmission? Or a source where I could find them?
I need the Ford numbers for:

1. Driver's side CV shaft
2. Passenger side CV shaft
3. Intermediate shaft
4. shifter assembly
5. Pedal assembly
6. Clutch reservoir and lines
7. Clutch master cylinder
8. Transmission dog bone mount
9. Shifter cable assembly

I guess instead of asking for you to do my work! What is your favorite Ford dealer to work with in the UK for OEM parts? Thanks!
