Electric Mirrors, Not working Properly

Postby theredcaddy » Tue Jul 17, 2012 8:52 pm

Hi..

I thought my elec mirrors didn't work, but they do! very slowly and in one direction only! :?

Is this a common problem as I can't find it on a search of this forum..

Any help or ideas appreciated!

if they work in one direction it is probably the controller, but check fuses first, there is a printed circute board inside which is very delicate, or it could be a broken wire under the passenger footwell, i posted about this not that long ago

Hi Turbo Tim,

Thanks for your help..

So is the PCB you mentioned in the door card under the controller?

I have checked the fuse for the mirrors movement, (5amp) and it is fine.. is there another I should check? (the heated part works ok as far as I can tell)

I think I read your post about the broken wire under the passenger footwell.. where abouts is that? Is it under the plastic trim?

Thanks again..

pcb is in the cotrol switch that you opperate, the wires that brake are passenger foot well, door side straight down inline with door pillar, you have to take some trim of then fold floor mat back a bit, i think it was 2 orange wires going into one, any one who has had a flooded footwell will suffer this at some point.

Well, I realised that I can move the drivers side mirror left and right if I hold the selector switch in *just* the right position.. so that indicates a connection problem in the switch. (the N/S mirror will do the same, but slowly and intermittently, so again, bad connection somewhere)

So, here's what I did to clean the selector switch and PCB:

Carefully prise the switch out of the door card with flat blade screwdriver.. and disconnect plug.

Carefully separate the switch body.

The whole switch was very dirty, inside and out!

Separate the PCB from the base, without bending the pins:

Again, filthy! No wonder it's not connecting properly!

Cleaned up thoroughly:

However, even after a thorough clean up, I think the contacts have been badly scored and pitted, so a good connection is never going to be possible.

Anyway, so it looks like I'll need a new switch, but I thought these pic's might be useful..
