Engine conversion....

Postby Drizz » Mon Sep 17, 2012 8:57 pm

Right, im sick of the 75 and decided to do the engine swap asap. Question is as im going to petrol will i need to change the tank or just drain it completely, and itll be a go'er for petrol? What about pumps? does it have an intank one at mo or just a lift pump and the main one on the engine?
What about the bell housing/gearbox? Is it this engine specific or will it fit Zetecs or CVHs or anything else?
Lastly, mounts. What will the differences be? Will a focus/mondeo mount fit the connect, or will a Zetec or CVH fit the connect mounts?

Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Diesel only had tank sender unit. No lift pump. Pump sucks the fuel up from tank so different.
Loom is different as well as is all engine management. Guess the dash and instrument cluster is.
You will pretty much have to change everything.
Why not just buy a LPG one in the first place and then do that?
if your fitting an rs lump in it the Turborob has his and it has the whole running gear.
Steering column, brakes everything.

Of course i know looms and ECUs are different, im talking about the bolting in. Wiring i can deal with, i ve just converted my Polo to a VR6 by changing every wire in the car so i dont mind the work, but i just need to know about the fitting and gearbox etc

I would say that fixing points for mountings would be same as engine in a focus is same.a connect on diesel so i woukd say that mountings for petrol.is.pretty much same. Not sure.about box to block. I.would.be putting complete unit in and full running gear as a much easier job i would say.

Connect diesel drive shafts are the same on the petrol models

if you get the 1.8 Zetec with gearbox it just bolts straight in. requires electric fuel pump & change engine wiring loom, ecu with key! & intrument panel (alot easier if you can get the complete loom from a petrol connect)

Easy conversion on early connects from 2003-2006, The later models will be harder to do, as they run a CANBUS system

if you are going the zetec route you can get an inlet manifold that will allow for a webber carb as the mondeo is now a very popular banger and not normally run with injection system or alternatively twin 40s and then just use an old fiesta edis module and wiring to just run the coil pack, either the black top or silver top mondeo 2 litre will fit straight in

Are the transit axles the same as the focus? Anyone have a part number for them?
