Change of keys.

Postby Ga2 » Fri Sep 21, 2012 11:55 pm

Hi

Apologies if this has been discussed before but couldnt find a thread.

I've recently bought an 06 connect.
It came with two keys with separate fobs.
Both of which are pretty knackered. Keys as well as fobs.

Is it possible to use the car style key (with fob built in)?

If so do I have to go to ford?

Can I just get a key cut and then programme the remote?

Any help/ideas much appreciated

Any key from a focus / fiesta/ mondeo & even the transit blue key/remote will work

just need to get new keyblade cut. (just remember to fit the imb transponder in you old key into the new one - although a key cutting place should be able to code key for you)

I,m using a mondeo mk3 flip key for my connect

If you buy a new all in one key with the transponder already in you can programme it yourself as you have 2 keys already.then program the remote locking yourself aswell
Job done.

As Vale said, you can do this yourself as you have two keys, search googgle. It's where I got the info to program my all in one key.

Yes a locksmith should be able to program it for you but you're looking upwards of £60. Fords will be double that.

this ONLY works if you have 2 keys,i tried this using 1 key twice and didnt work

1.Insert your first working key
2.Turn to position II and wait 2 seconds
3.Remove the key
4.Insert your second working key
5.Turn to position II and wait 2 seconds
6.Remove the key
7.Now insert the new unprogrammed key
8.Turn to position II and wait 2 seconds
9.Remove new key (New key is now programmed)
10. If you wish to add more keys repeat steps 7 to 9 now
11. To exit programming mode wait 20 seconds

So does this avoid having to pay a locksmith or Ford the £60-£120 do do the same job, or am I missing something?

Cheers gents!

Next question is how much should I expect to pay to get a blank cut.

I assume this would be ok as a blank.

dont forget to program the remote locking after

Place your key in the ignition

Turn the key from position 0 to position 2

Do this 8 times in quick succession

Now press any button, the doors will lock and

unlock to signify the remote has been

programmed, to program extra remotes press

any button on each additional remote.

To exit programming mode either turn the

ignition on and off or simply wait 20 seconds

if you have only one key.you cant program the transponder yourself and will need to call a auto locksmith

Knowing how to do it, and having the expensive equipment to do it, aren't the same thing though :)

Hi, just a quick question regarding this. Im just about to buy a 3 button remote key. I have a 2001 transit with 2 working keys and one seperate remote. Will any 3 button remote work i.e from focus, mondeo, fiesta? becasue ive read about different types of chips in the keys not working with certain ages of transit.

thanks for your help.

Lewis.
