Transit Connect 53' Dash Problems

Postby SamP » Sat Sep 22, 2012 2:49 am

Hi I'm trying to make a 53 plate t200l road worthy again after a year unused and I have a few problems which I'm hoping aren't life threatening. The Dash doesn't work. I have indicator and warning lights, but no speed, rev or fuel gauge and the mileage and clock are frozen. Also the interior lights don't work I'm not sure if that's related. Someone suggested that I may need a new cluster but its expensive I was just wandering if anyone else has had this problem and how much it was to fix? It seems a bit down on power as well - struggles past 50 and steep hills, just wandering if there is any quick fix? And lastly the fuel cap lock has seized and no amount of wd40 helps...?

Any help greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
Sam.

I would check the fuses, to see if any have blown.
as for holding back it could be possible that the fuel has gone off, so new fuel and fuel filter maybe would be a good start.

could try disconnecting battery for a bit so ecu resets, and check the altenator smart charge wire as they're a common fault

Open bonnet and you will see a fusebox under screen on n/s/f,remove lid and there should be a sticker on the underside showing what fuses are for......

locate the one with a picture of a 'speedo'
pull the fuse and leave it for a while, refit and see what happens, checking interior lamps......

Ok I will check the fuses under bonnet tomorrow, already checked fuses behind passenger glove box all working. I'm not sure if some were missing that should be there though and didn't see any speedo stickers. And as for power I have been put in new diesel twice (£15 each time as I have no idea how much is in it) and the same again on a bottle of some kind of fuel cleanser that someone in my local garage recommended would clear out the tank of debris but I will get a new filter if thats likely to be the problem.
Any response is greatly appreciated, can't accommodate it off-road anymore would hate to see it go to the scrappy.
Thanks again.
