Winter tyres

Postby rennie » Tue Oct 02, 2012 11:01 pm

Last winter I put a couple of Hankook icept rs on the front and couldn't believe the difference it made.
I can't see how extra grip can be achieved by purchasing any for the rear though?

I'll give it till the end of the month and putting them back on again.

Any one else with feedback on any other worthy tyres around?

have had dunlop winter sport3's for the last 2 winters....brilliant!!!!!, running with only fronts means the back end will go a lot easier as it has'nt got the grip

Yep, Avon Ice Touring on my van for the last two winters, only about £65 a tyre.

In snow and ice the difference is amazing, I believe the snow sticks to the special silica tyre compound and makes it much more grippy.
And it certainly does seem to work.

I fitted Dunlop winter sport 3D's to the front of the van last winter and they were brilliant. Only got out of shape with the back end once (had regular Pirelli city net tyres on). Left the winter tyres fitted all year and they still have plenty of tread left on for this year. I'm tempted to try a new set of Pirelli snow control serie2 though.

We have mandatory winter tyres and having a set on one axle only is strictly forbidden. Your vehicle will be out of control in unexpected situations.

Always go 4.
