Postby gavt123 » Tue Oct 16, 2012 12:37 pm

Hello all my pads are low on my van so im thinking about upgrading my calipers and discs to what options do i have? Id like focus brembos would they fit on without to much hassle? Any info would be great my van is a 09 connect sport.

The brakes fitted to the connect are the same calipers as the focus ST170 and the mk3 mondeo so are good already really. You could always fit ST170 upgraded pads like Ferodo ds2500's or Mintex M1144's. Also swap the discs for a set of grooved items. I did this setup on my old ST170 and it improved the braking performance quite a bit.

But if you want to swap the calipers you will have to have a set of mounting brackets manufactured to mount te focus RS calipers on as they won't be a straight swap.

Ive got performance grooved discs from modyourtransit.com and ebc redstuff pads front and rear. Going to fit them at some point next week so will let you know the different. Oh ye and i also have performance braided hoses to along with them. I reckon this set up should make a huge difference.

Grooved discs and proper pads (not just run of the mill replacements) did make a noticeable difference on my old focus. Bite was sharper and they didn't fade as fast. I'm yet to upgrade the van ones. But I'll just be buying pads as the discs were replaced for standard ones last year. When I need pads ill be going for M1144 Mintex ones for the ST170. They will probably wear out quicker but still it's better to spend the money on brakes.
