Things to look for when buying a connect

Postby supZ » Sat Oct 27, 2012 1:22 am

Hey all,

I'll be going to hopefully pick up a connect lwb hi-roof next saturday and was just wondering if there's anything specific i should look for other than the usual car related checks.

any telltale noises i should listen for with the engine/turbo?

i've had plenty of pics of the van, it looks like a very clean example apart from a small section of rust (just surface only according to the guy) on the left rear sill. if it is just surface the first thing i'll be doing is cleaning it off, treating with some rust protector and giving it a touch-up but if its any worse what would i expect for a repair?

here are a couple of large pics of it. im not putting img tags on as they're quite big photos

seats: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8474/8124 ... 5d98_h.jpg

i do have a lot more pics of various angles, he's not trying to hide anything.. does look very clean overall

so anyway, any weak points i should look for?

thanks for any info

am rather looking forward to getting it.. another project to fiddle with :D

the plastic charge cooler pipes that run over the engine look wet, just make sure that wet is not engine old being blown out of somewhere
Please don't send me PM's, i can't access them, when I try I get this:

i would imagine the guys probably just cleaned it so thats why its shiny but i'll have a good look all around for any oil where its not meant to be.

will listen for rattles and bearings and that too :)

lol, nah.. it be white, or at least it will be until i get it (toying with the idea of having it wrapped gunmetal grey)

cheers guys

so, the rust is nothing to be worried about? obviously i wont know how deep it is until i see it so hopefully its nothing major

I've got a white steel bulkhead for a LWB connect going cheap if you need one?

i'll keep that in mind cheers :)

i was planning to make one from ply as i'll need a 'groove' cut in the middle to let the race bikes front wheel poke forward a bit. was thinking i might also need to put my speakers in it if 6.5" wont fit in the doors (dont know if they do or not as thats the size i've got a spare set in)

wont be able to do that with a steel one but we'll see
