Shell V-Power vs Morrisons.

Postby chogs » Wed Nov 21, 2012 3:27 pm

Ok, i've been carefully checking MPG figures over the last few months running my 12 plate LWB connect on morrisons diesel.
The van has been averaging between 40.5 & 41.5 MPG half loaded over a wide mixture of roads: urban, country & motorway.
I'm now running shell v-power, and the first 2 tankfulls have returned 43.5 MPG over the same type of driving.
I can't say if the engine feels any different than with the supermarket fuel, but the MPG looks promising to start off.
I'll carry on using the v-power for a few months to see what happens.
Incidentally i have been calculating this using the trip mileage against litres at the pump, but the onboard MPG computer is showing EXACTLY the same readings!

Have you worked out which is the best value for money? I mean if you can't feel any difference, then there's no point using the more expensive fuel.

Also, remember that colder weather can bring small improvements in mpg.

I was using Shell (normal stuff) but started using Asda again as 5p per litre cheaper. Average miles per galleon about the same so a big saving.

At todays prices and using these figures its costing £2.29 LESS to travel 480 miles using V-power in my van than when using morrisons.
This is despite V-power costing more plus its a better quality fuel.
If you believe the marketing regarding v-power cleaning the fuel system/DPF/EGR valve etc then there is potentially even greater benefits.
Of course, if your vehicle is doing the same MPG as supermarket fuel, then there maybe isn't any need to change, but mine is doing more MPG (only a couple more MPG at the moment).

This is just my findings using different diesel in my lwb connect, started using tesco filled up the tank and was getting about 390miles to a tank so thought I'd try shells normal city diesel which returned 420miles to a tank then tried esso which I think returned about 408miles then tried v-power diesel and again got 420miles out of it so I've gone back to normal shell diesel and use my shell points card to get vouchers and I now cruise at 60mph and had the van remapped using van tuners postal map and its now giving me even better mpg and acceleration. If I can plan when I fill up sometimes I can get 450-460 miles from my van. I know it's not conclusive test but the less times I have to fill up the better :-) and my van is always filled the same with valeting gear, generator, gazebo etc
