Squealing noise...pump?

Hi, i bought my connect about 4 weeks ago. ive noticed a kind of squealing noise. it possibly sounds like a pump. its high pitched and kind of goes up and down but disappears when revved slightly. sounds like its coming from the middle of the dash but when i lift the bonnet the engines so noisy i cant hear it. any ideas?

Have you changed the aux belt ? as the noise may not be the fuel pump as it's at the front but could be the pas pump as that's at the rear

ive not changed anything yet, i thought maybe the pas pump but i've not had a chance to have a good look at it. i don't know much about the vans but i can do basic mechanics, servicing and clutches etc. I'll try and have a look tomorrow

Try a new belt frist ,as it could just be the belt is knackered

just went out and had a listen again, it definatly sounds like a pump thats struggling to run, i'll try and have a look at the pas pump tomorrow. cheers

belt tensioner and idler pulley bearings wear dry,, they squeel and chirp summat rotten PITA ,, i never cured mine fully .
