Maybe a damaged or unplugged crankshaft position sensor, I think its on the flywheel end

As said above check the crankshaft sensor. Only £20 for a ford one if it is knackered.

Yes you could have touched it, the back of the flywheel (engine side) is the reluctor for the crankshaft position sensor, if you look up under the van, where the right hand side driveshaft goes into the g\box, its just above in the engine block facing the back of the flywheel, if the sensor is good then maybe its the wrong flywheel :(

ye was just having a think about that the flywheel is identical to other and it cant be on wrong theres only one way to fit it ,if it was a sensor or wire loose woudnt i have a light on dash also i dont think it will be an earth cos it wouldnt even fire up if it was, ill check crankshaft sensor today after that im clueless again

crank shaft senors are very easily damage and if ya caught it while dropping the g/box out .. could of damage it even though it looks ok :? , have ya tryed to clean with a little petrol or sumit to remove the crap on the tip that reads the crank or theres a bit of oil or grease on the fly wheel coursing it to run lumpy just a thought :?

Its not going to get damaged when removing the G\box as it sits behind the flywheel + oil will not affect it as some of them on other vehicles are fitted in the crank case and thats got oil splashing about when the engine is running

Looks like you going to have to get someone to plug in diagnostic machine and look at the live data to check see whats going on, or not going on

i know this may seem a stupid question but are the 2 large connectors fully connected?, also is the van a di or ci and is the correct flywheel fitted, also i know this normally applies to big transits but have you connected the speed sensor wire to the crank sensor and vice versa
