Postby Adam_84 » Tue Dec 25, 2012 12:16 am

Hi, I'm looking into getting a reversing camera for my connect and am planning to have it running all the time as a rear view mirror. The people with technical knowledge could you look at this and give your opinion please if it's crap then why and if its good then is it worth getting.

I've just bought a very similar system from ebay for a friend to fit in his camper, we bought the smaller camera, rather than the larger one too.

We've only connected it up to test it at the moment and we've been impressed with the image quality.

He's also fitting a set of reversing sensors to complement the camera.

When I bought mine for the connect, I paid about £130 from parkingcameras.com
I have since bought one for the car, £37 from ebay.
Not much difference between the 2.

The connect one was a mirror/tv.
But for the car,I went for 1 that had a different screen, as I put it on the middle rear head rest, so I can see it in my mirror.
Here is the link

I mounted it to the head rest with this

there are SHEDLOADS of these cameras on ebay.just search for cctv outdoors and rejoice :)
as both rear cameras on my van are full of water and dead, im going to replace them with this dome one, mounted on the secondary door at the back

just looked at the OP mirror LCD and reversing camera in the top link. those are the type currently full of water on my van!
cctv standard is BNC or coax cable, you can mix and match between connector and cable types with adapters without problem.

edit: and if you want the stuff a bit cheaper you can skip ebay and go direct to the shop - http://www.globeteck.co.uk/

Is that one of the holders that clips to the top of the number plate? What's it like at night, do you get problems from headlights flaring the camera?

Looks like a nice gadget to have, my worry is though, is there any lag because if your watching the picture and reversing you might still bump something

no, even taking into account time to render the display we are only talking milliseconds.

mind you, how fast does your van go in reverse? ;)

No its a complete numberplate holder. Had to cut the plate down a little as the holder was slightly smaller. You can see the wire from the camera which I fed through one of the numberplate light fittings instead of drilling another hole. Camera is in the centre top and has led to either side. Not a lot of good if pitch dark with no lighting but very clear under street lights.
