no fuel after hp pump

Postby evo rich » Sun Jan 06, 2013 12:01 pm

hi i have got a transit connect 1.8 cdti 56 reg and went out in it the other day and come back 2 it wouldn't start so got towed home tride bumping it on the way back on tow but nuthing.

so when i got back plugged it in to my diagnostics and it come up with egr fuelt code p0490 but i think it had this fuelt way before and wouldn't stop the van from starting.

so i popped the pipe off from the fuel filter what fed the hp pump but didnt seam a lot of fuel there so i fitted a little hand pump on the filter and gave it some pumps intill fuel come out then fitted the pipe that went to the hp pump on the other end and gave it some pumps then got some 2 try starting it but still nuthing.
so popped off the return fuel pipe of the pump and turned it over and fuel come out so there is fuel getting 2 the pump.

so then and i no u are not suppost to do this we undid 1 off the metal pipes that go 2 the injectors then turned it over still with the hand pump being pumped and next 2 nothing come out of it so is my hp pump had it as i don't wont 2 go and shell out on it and it not be that and is there any more test 2 try out on the pump or any thing that can course this thanks rich

Change the fuel filter for a new one and see how you get on.
Sounds like a blocked filter or low fuel pressure.

welcome to the forum

Fault code - P0490 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Throttle Control Circuit High

The Engine ECU does not detect voltage on the EGR Solenoid circuit

Possible causes

- EGR Solenoid harness is open or shorted
- EGR Solenoid circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty EGR Solenoid

Usually a fault in the control circuit, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) light will be on (engine management). However, if the EGR control solenoid is stuck open due to soot / debris etc.
code P0490 may be accompanied by rough idle, or engine dying altogether.

The fault code P0490 has nothing to do with the DIesel pump
