Hesitation/choke/judder between 1500-2000 rpm

Postby Jonno80 » Mon May 06, 2013 8:32 pm

Hello everyone

Been looking at this site for ages and got some really good tips

Got a 2009(59) 90hps trend in grey
It's got 90k on it
Fully maintained and still drives tight as a nut

The problem I have is when pulling away there is a judder sort of misfire at about 1500-2000rpm

The problem seems to be worse when the engine is up to temp

It also is worse if you drive the van softly, if you thrash it up through the gears it's fine

I've read some threeds about similar issues but none exactly the same. People sergested maybe a mass flow meter so I have orders one if these(£50) which will be fitted as soon as it comes , also a EGR valve cover which again will be fitted when it comes

So my questions are
1: any other ideas what it could be or people who've experienced these what did you do to resolve it?
2; do I need to clean anything when replacing the mass air flow sensor?
3: do I need to clean the EGR valve and manifold before fitting the cover? I think this could be a bugger of a job

used to get a slight hesitation at about those revs, usually if in 3rd behind slow traffic going uphill.......took the egr/inlet manifold off and gave it a goo d clean with carb cleaner then put some wynns thro' it,same time cleaned map and maf sensors..........not happened since :D

Thanks for the reply mate
I shall try this then

When you say you pit some wynns through it do you mean the fuel additive that you just add to a tank of fuel?

Hi there thought I would update this

So I took of the egr and manifold and they were really clean. Like spotlessly

I sprayed the egr cleaner though the running engine anyway while I was there!! Loads of black soot came ou the back so it did something!

This didn't solve the problem

I blanked the egr off

This didn't solve the problem

I got a new MAF sensor

This didn't solve the problem

Banging my head against the steering wheel all the way I took it to FORD.........

They stuck it on the magic machine and ( now this means nothing to me) disconnected the GEM module and re programmed asbuilt data..... Cleared all the codes and now .... I pray... Seems to running fine!,,,

Ill keep you all posted

I take it back!!

It's not fixed at all. Gave it a proper run today and once warmed up it started again

Any ideas?

Worth getting a new throttle peddle as it only happens when very light on the peddle?

I have a 2008 Connect TDCi 110ps, bought it new and have done 62,000 miles in it.

The van has always had this fault to some extent, despite three or four software upgrades. If you drive on a light throttle at about 1700rpm it hesitates and can seem to lose power momentarily.
It's worse when cold, I don't bother about it now, just drive around it.

Lightening,

Did you ever get the throttle peddle looked at?

I have a feeling it could be this.

It's going back to ford tomorrow and if they can't fix it I'm selling it!

Anyone interested in a 2009 90bhp 95k trend in grey???

Tried a new pedal, two new pedals in fact.

I returned the first one when it made no difference but left the second one on the van as it had done 45,000 miles by then.

But the hesitation is still there.

A remap (Superchips) failed to cure it as well, I don't know if Vantuner can do anything about this on his remaps.

I have the same issue with my van, has been this way for about 12 months. Happened after a fullservice (oil amd all filters) at a reputable garage.

I swapped fuel filter for another new gen ford one incase this has caused he problem, it didn't. Like liteace Ive learnt to drive round it. Does annoy you though.

Mine is 110psi swb on a 57 with 100k on clock

Evening all

So I thought I would update you

After several visits to the ford garage in Witney ... Then not being able to do anything because there computer couldn't detect a fault ( I now thing the idiots there are just part fitters not mechanics)

The problem got dramatically worse today

I called out Greenflag as it had become undriveable
Within 5seconds he said "your EGR valve is knackerd!"

He connected 2 tiny pipes together which go into the vacuum ontop of the EGR valve and bypassed the EGR and the problem was solved....

So there you go if it ever happens to you you know what to do!!

I however have fallen out of love with my van and am getting a caddy

Good luck to you all and I bid you ferwell!

The EGR blank should have cured a faulty EGR, so not sure why bypassing the vacuum would fix it ?
